YAESU FT-857
General
The Remoterig system supports the popular Yaesu FT-857. The technical solution is the same
as for all the other rigs like IC-706 and TS-480 etc with detachable control panel. You can
remote control the radio over Internet from the control panel without any PC. We simply
replace the cable between the control panel and the radio with two RRC-1258 units, one at
the control panel and one at the radio. When you push the PWR-ON button an audio and data
connection is established between the units and you control the radio as you do normally with
the control panel directly attached to the radio.
Hardware configuration
The FT-857 is fully supported by the Remoterig RRC-1258MkIIs from hardware version 7.
Earlier version of the RRC:s can also be used but then some hardware changes or special
cabling are needed, See at the website under Support and Mods.
If you have a set of RRC:s hardware 7 or later you only need to make cables. The cables are
also available from the web shop.
Attention !
The FT-857 can enter a state where it’s absolutely unreachabale until you remove the 13.8V
Power source. Reset of the RRC doesn’t help, even fysical disconnect of the RRC doesn’t help.
This happens rarely but if you have the radio on a QTH where you have no one who can
switch off the power supply you must install a remote controlled switched so you can switch
off the 13,8V power to the radio. For example a Webswitch 1216H, or a GSM Switch, If you
do no use all outputs on the RRC-1258 you can use one of the outputs to control a relay
which can switch off the 13.8V power to the Radio.
Also be aware of that the FT-857 almost makes a short circuit to the 13.8V power for a short
moment when it’s powered ON. If you have the Radio-RRC connected to the same Power
Supply it can cause the RRC do reset. If it’s the case power the RRC-from a separate PS. This
